ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship was created in 2009 after Damon, at the age of 34, passed away suddenly after a routine surgery. Damon will always be remembered for his warm smile and open heart. As a way to celebrate Damon’s life and encourage a young adult to continually strive to improve their future, his wife and a group of close friends started the Memorial Golf Outing.
Following the success of the first outing, the Damon Igel Memorial Scholarship Board was created to ensure the solvency of the scholarship. Our ultimate goal is to become a self-sustaining foundation that can fund the scholarship year after year. The previous gatherings each brought together more than 80 friends and family -- men and women of all skill levels -- from across southeastern Michigan.

My name is Justin Newcomb, Head Football Coach at Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights, MI. Want to take a moment and talk about Donavin Patrick. It has been such a pleasure to coach Donavin and watch him positively influence his peers. He has come along way since his Freshman year. Early in his High School Career he wasn't making the best of decisions. However, watching him mature and develop into the man he is today has been so impressive to watch. He has been a leader to his teammates, mentor to younger players and also goes out of his way to help other students on the team. Whether staying after practice to help a teammate, or picking up underclassmen who couldn't drive, Donavin has always put the needs of others first. Donavin exemplifies the qualifications, strong character, and great work ethic necessary to lead his classmates and his community. His positive attitude, desire, and attention to detail make Donavin a tremendous leader. I can’t say enough great things about Donavin. He served our team and program well, but once you get to know him, he is even a better person.
